HOW TO REMOVE A FISHING HOOK

Since bass fishing is one of the most popular types of fishing, let's focus on how to successfully remove the hook from a bass.

Handling a bass as little as possible and removing the hook with minimum tissue damage is the best way to ensure the survival of the fish after it is caught.

Grasp the bass’ lower jaw to immobilize the fish, but for larger bass, it is necessary to provide additional support for the fish by resting its body on something or keeping it in the water while holding it by the lower jaw.

Grasping the hook with pliers and pushing the hook out of the fish’s mouth or jaw results in a quicker and less damaging hook removal than twisting and pulling on the hook with your fingers.

When bass are hooked in the throat or gills, cutting the line and leaving the hook in the tissue usually results in better survival than removing the hook, which can create excessive tissue damage.
