This just in: The Missouri Brown Trout State Record has been broken! Paul Crews was fishing the annual Vince Elfrink Memorial Trout Tournamenton Lake Taneycomo with a conventional rod and reel (not a fly guy) when he hooked into a behemoth of a fish. The colossal Brown Trout weighed 34-pounds and 10 ounces breaking the previous state record by over 6 pounds!

“I usually only trout fish one time a year and it’s this tournament,” -Crews said.' ''Once the fish was in the boat I just knew my partner and I won the tournament,” “But I was shocked to hear I was a state record holder.”

Catching a personal best during competition is cool, but, breaking the state record while entered in a tournament with your buddies is something that fishing dreams are made of. Congrats to Paul on his record-setting catch and a special shoutout to his net-man Jim Rayfield for scooping up the fish. Much like a placekicker in the NFL, the person handling the net can become a hero or a villain rather quickly, so kudos to old Jimmy.
