In December 2021, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife received a call about shady fishing activity going down at Enid Lake, a reservoir in the northern part of the state known for its trophy crappie population.

When the officers arrived, they found a guy with a 152 crappie over the legal limit. The angler was cited for his greedy act, and the responding officers shared their gratitude for the tip from a community member.

"We would like to thank the general public for reporting game violations thereby allowing our officers to further protect our state's wildlife resources.

Col. Jerry Carter

What Happens To The Fish?

The fish obviously can't go back in the lake, but I wonder if anyone gets to keep them? Is there a giant fish fry at the warden's house this weekend? Do they go to a food bank? Become fertilizer? How do things play out for the 152 fish?

It'd be a real shame if those fish ended up being discarded or wasted. If it were up to me, I'd suggest the guy has to fillet every fish with a dull knife and then serve them up at a community fish fry. Then, you give him a timeout for a few fishing seasons and make him untangle 100 bird nested reels. Hopefully, he'll have learned his lesson and will be following regulation limits by then.
